Um es gleich vorweg zu sagen: der Autor des vorliegenden Buches ist gut in Shanghai angekommen, bereichert um ein ganzes B\u00fcndel von Erfahrungen und Einsichten, an denen er seine Leser ausf\u00fchrlich teilhaben l\u00e4sst. Das herbe Ambiente zentralasiatischen Zugreisens, die Raffgierigkeit der Grenzbeamten, die Ver\u00f6dung des Aralsees und das \u00f6kologische Desaster der Baummwollmonokulturen, das V\u00f6lkergemisch im Ferganatal und das Erlebnis von Chiva, Buchara und Samarkand \u2013 wie ein buntes Potpourri von Impressionen und Informationen zieht die fremdartige kasachisch-usbekisch-kirgisische Welt im ersten Teil des Buches vor dem inneren Auge des Lesers vor\u00fcber. \u00dcber den Torugartpass wird nach einer abenteuerlichen Busreise endlich Kaschgar in Xinjiang erreicht, von Uiguren bewohnt, doch unter der Knute der Chinesen, die an den Grenzen ihres Reiches mit ihren ethnischen Minderheiten nicht zimperlich umspringen. \u00dcber die klassische Seidenstra\u00dfe und die Oasen Aqsu, Kuqa, <span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0<\/span>Turfan und Dunhuang, \u00fcber Buddhagrotten, Gark\u00fcchen, <span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0<\/span>und alle Arten von Bus- und Eisenbahnh\u00f6fen geht es weiter zum tibetischen Kloster Labrang und nach <span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0<\/span>Lanzhou, dem Tor zum Kernland Chinas, ehe die Reise nach Stationen in Szechuan, Guilin in der Metropole Shanghai endet.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Eine imponierende Reise, zweifellos &#8211; <span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0<\/span>ist es aber auch ein imponierendes Buch geworden? Ja und nein. Wer sich an kulturgeschichtlichen <span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0<\/span>Details und einer geschliffenen Sprache berauschen m\u00f6chte, wird nicht uneingeschr\u00e4nkt auf seine Kosten<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>kommen. Daf\u00fcr bietet das Buch auf engem Raum die erstaunlich abgerundete Skizze einer unbekannten Welt im Umbruch, eine Art pers\u00f6nlich kolorierter Asienkunde, die mit <span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0<\/span>Gewinn und Vergn\u00fcgen zu lesen ist. Mehr noch: Der Enthusiasmus und das unverstellte Staunen des Autors, nicht zuletzt die erstklassig reproduzierten Farbabbildungen, stimulieren im Leser den Wunsch das, was der Autor zeigt und beschreibt, mit eigenen Augen zu sehen.
